The Institute for Water Quality and Waste Management (ISAH) is situated at the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universität Hannover and assigned to the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodetic Science. It is subdivided in the four departments of municipal water management, waste management, hydrobiology, and water resources management.





Since the foundation in 1939 the ISAH developed to one of the leading and internationally accepted institutes in its research field. The list of renowned former members of the ISAH, who are in leading positions at national and international universities, associations and companies, and numerous awards to members and graduates of the ISAH illustrate this.

E.ON Environmental Award


On 22.07.2008 the E.ON Environmental Award has been awarded to the consortium of the city of Schwarzenbach, the company Hagold and the ISAH. The project is concerned with testing a pretreatment of yeast production wasterwater for reducing COD- and ammonia-load while and biogas utilization. The award is endowed with prize money of 20.000 €.

DWA main comittee IG under new management


By 01.01.2008 Prof. Dr.-Ing. Rosenwinkel assumed control of the main comittee "Industrial wastewater and facility related water protection" of DWA (German Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste)

Seaborne at WWTP Gifhorn


The world´s first industrial-scale application of the Seaborne technology for sludge treatment started operation on 10.10.2007 at Gifhorn. Scientific monitoring has been carried out by ISWW of TU Braunschweig and ISAH.
