ISAH lecture at the Association of Applied Photocatalysis

Photocatalysis is used, among other things, as an air purification process to convert nitrogen oxides (NOx) from the air, which are produced during combustion processes, into nitrate (NO3-). For this purpose, for example, building materials and surface coverings with titanium dioxide (TiO2) coating are used, which acts as a catalyst when exposed to sunlight and accelerates the natural conversion process from NOx to NO3-. But does the resulting nitrate perhaps even create a new problem, e.g., by entering stormwater and/or soil? What happens to nitrate in the environment and the water pathway, and what are its effects? The ISAH will address these questions at the 6th Photocatalysis Colloquium on March 4, 2021, in a lecture on "Photocatalysis - the shift of the problem to another medium?" (Zieseniß, Beier). On the TransMiT research project (https://www.transmit-zukunftsstadt.de/

) issues relating to photo-catalytically active road surfaces are investigated in the form of a test field.
