The KEYS "First Results Workshop" took place in Beijing on 11.5.2019, which was also the KEYS Mid-Term Meeting. The German and Chinese partners gave themselves a whole day to discuss the results achieved so far in detail and to define the concrete content for the second half of the project. Once again, the focus was on the "KEYS demonstrations" and the R&D activities of the companies Steinhardt and NIVUS. Steinhardt presented the current planning status for the use of their HydroGuard® and HydroTwister® technology in the Tongzhou project area (Beijing). NIVUS had installed flow meters and rain gauges in Tongzhou at the beginning of September and could now present the data collected until November 2019 in Beijing. Further KEYS results concerning retention soil filters, sponge city elements, and wastewater treatment plant modelling were presented and discussed. In the afternoon, two workshops addressed the topics "Further Development of Sponge City Approach" and "Wastewater Treatment Plant Design, Operation and Modelling" to align the further implementation steps of KEYS close to the current Chinese reality. The KEYS project thus manages to keep pace with the rapid development in China and, in close coordination with the Chinese partners, make visible contributions to the sponge city development in Tongzhou (Beijing).
