Leibniz University and Tsinghua University agree to establish a Double Degree Master's Program "Resources and Environment"

Based on a very long history of cooperation, in 2017 the Institute of Sanitary Engineering and Waste Management and the School of Environment of Tsinghua University, supported by funding from the BMBF, established the "Platform for United Water Science and Technology Innovations (PLUS)". In parallel to the launch and implementation of joint research activities, academic collaboration has also been significantly expanded since then. On May 29, 2021, another important milestone was reached. After extensive coordination and preliminary planning, the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodetic Science of Leibniz University Hannover has agreed with Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School on the establishment of a joint study program. On May 29, 2021, a joint agreement was signed at an online ceremony attended by Vice Presidents Prof. Yang and Prof. von Haaren, certifying the launch of the Double Degree Master Program "Resources and Environment". The program will train engineers who have special skills to develop compelling engineering solutions to the environmental and resource protection challenges that exist around the world. A new bilateral approach to education is being implemented that combines the advantages of both university education systems. The program will have a scope of 6 semesters and will include 2 master''s theses due to the double degree. In addition to classical elements of engineering education, the curriculum provides for numerous mobility components, practical parts and intercultural exchange formats. At present, the joint degree program is scheduled to begin in the winter semester of 2022/2023.
